Generalist Software Engineer (Mobile & Desktop Application teams) – Perplexity AI
Perplexity AI is seeking experienced Generalist Software Engineers to join our Perplexity and Comet application teams. Our team is redefining knowledge work through cutting-edge desktop and Comet apps.
About the Role
The ideal candidate must have:
- Strong programming skills
- 4+ years of experience shipping high-quality production software
- Proficiency in our multi-language tech stack: Rust, Kotlin, Swift, TypeScript, Chromium, and Perplexity’s AI-focused infrastructure
- The ability to quickly adapt to multiple codebases and work across systems efficiently

Responsibilities
- Work alongside product teams to deliver innovative mobile experiences
- Collaborate with UI/design teams to design fast, intuitive interfaces
- Leverage Perplexity’s AI tools (e.g., Perplexity Compute) to accelerate development
- Partner with Data Science & ML teams to refine system instrumentation, execution, and user satisfaction
- Coordinate with Infrastructure & QA for seamless deployment, testing, release, and monitoring

Requirements
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Proven capability in shipping high-performance native applications
- Architectural skill: writing code that’s both agent-friendly and human-comprehensible
- In-depth knowledge of app performance optimisation
- Proactive ownership: ability to initiate ideas, drive projects, and ship features independently
Compensation Range: $200K – $400K (base + equity stack)
