The Opportunity
Title: Senior Education Consultant – Curriculum & Instruction Leadership Reporting To: Chief Education Officer Location: Hybrid (Michigan HQ with travel as needed) Employment Type: Full-time, salaried
This role leads curriculum strategy, school workforce development, and advocacy at the state level with a laser focus on innovation, equity, and outcomes. Selected candidates will:
- Serve as Chief Curriculum Officer to partner districts, designing program pathways for aspiring leaders, educators, and specialist staff.
- Optimize equity-informed curriculum design, professional learning, and assessment approaches.
- Advance MISTAFF’s impact through research-backed leadership development that aligns with evolving state/district needs.

The ideal candidate is a battlestandard curriculum leader (preK–12 or higher ed) passionate about systemic transformation, leveraging pedagogical expertise to inform the content, mechanics, and impact of MISTAFF’s work. Background in policymaking or executive-level advocacy highly desired.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Agenda Owner
- Partner with ABE/School Board/sector teams to develop multi-year strategic plans addressing PLT, assessment alignment, and restorative practices.
- Oversee staff training teams to ensure education quality and compliance standards.
Advocacy & Policy Bridge
- Monitor state-level policy shifts, interpret implications, and educate MISTAFF on piloting pilot program models.
- Support strategic meetings with legislators via thought leadership*.
Project & Workforce Coordination
- Lead programmatic design/debugging for alternative certification track portals.
- Coordinate transitions for teachers/candidates moving between MISTAFF-supported districts.
- Audit pipeline data across systems (HRIS, ALIS*, educational platforms).

Ideal Skills & Experience
A Must-Have
- Master’s degree (-Mechanical Engineering, Education, Sociology, Curriculum Studies, or related preferred) with:
- Critical focus on diverse instructional models, classroom ecology, and researched achievement gaps.
- 10–15 years teaching/school leadership (specialist ranking brings reach/credit) in high-poverty/high-churn environments.
- Record of publishing whitepapers, state action plans, or technical patents (curriculum tools/programs) is a plus.
Agile Qualities
- enthusiasm for data storytelling and testing repay-us-for-tenure *genres
- ability to decode complex evaluation criteria and synthesize for tenured leadership teams
