Mental Health Liaison Lead Practitioner – Fixed Term, Part-Time (12 Months), Swindon Community CAMHS
About the Role
Do you want to develop your leadership skills and support clinicians to offer an excellent service to children and young people? Now is the perfect time to join Oxford Health Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) as part of a national drive to improve child and adolescent mental healthcare across England.
We are seeking to appoint a experienced Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker to join our CAMHS team based in Swindon, on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is an opportunity to deliver outstanding care while contributing to innovative service improvement at Great Western Hospital.
Role Overview
As the Mental Health Liaison Lead Practitioner (LPS), you’ll provide clinical leadership across a high-quality mental healthcare liaison service within Swindon District General Hospital. Responsibilities include:
- Acting as a lead clinical practitioner for the relevant liaison service
- Ensuring consistent, responsive and user-friendly mental health support for children and young people who present to the acute hospital
- Supporting service modernisation to provide the right support, at the right place, at the right time
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Clinical Support
- Lead the Mental Health Liaison Service at Swindon Community CAMHS, providing day-to-day clinical supervision and developing practice.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team development focussed on risk assessment and positive risk-taking.
- Engage in ongoing development of functional specialisms in line with [Oxford Health’s] value-driven culture.

Assessment & Interventions
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of young people and adults (free text: "please note, this includes adultPresenting")) with mental health needs in the acute setting.
- Work collaboratively with inpatient (adultery: acute mental health teams/psychiatric units) and specialist public mental health CAMHS teams (including eating disorder and self-harm pathways).
Specific Service-Focused Support
- Deliberate self-harm: assessment and support intervention.
- Provide consultation support to hospital wards/multidisciplinary teams regarding mental health-related patient needs (referral pathways, 5A+ diagnostic models).
- Lead development of CAMHS training/community engagement activities specifically addressing hospital settings.
- Provide principal link between acute wards (especially ED, MSK Rx) despite limited team coverage and specialist messaging to staff & Trust creators on CAMHS principles.
Leadership and Development
- Offer weekly clinical supervision to junior colleagues.
- Engage in regular leadership meetings to align Dr Lynch/CAMHS hospital network activities.
- Maintain professional accountability through clinical governance and national caps.

Qualifications & Experience
We value applicants who:
✅ Have substantial prior experience as a Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker (entry-level applications actively encouraged for committed/high-potential candidates) ✅ Demonstrate an innovative and person-centred approach when working with vulnerable children, young people and families ✔ Can ** naviosol/amduce leadership** with a proactive focus on knowledge transfer & continuous improvement
