About the Role

Sefton CAMHS at Alder Hey are seeking a Mental Health Practitioner (MHP) (Band 6) to join their dynamic, caring, and supportive team.

We have one full-time permanent position available.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work across educational, healthcare, and community settings to provide:

    • Early intervention
    • Evidence-based interventions
    • Support for children and young people and their families
    • Facilitation of access to support in schools
  • Communicate to clients and families:

    • Knowledge of therapeutic processes, confidentiality, and available care options
    • Informed consent process
    • Occasional discussion of highly sensitive material and outcomes

  • Utilise analytical skills, specialist knowledge, and experience to:

    • Conduct comprehensive assessments and formulations, considering:
      • Child’s educational attainment
      • Chronological/developmental stage
      • Inner world/emotional wellbeing
      • Parental mental health
      • Family dynamics and environment
      • Broader social context, including school
  • Develop and deliver a structured programme of interventions based on:

    • Behavioural
    • Cognitive
    • Psychodynamic
    • Systemic perspectives
    • Formulations and evidenced-based need
  • Conduct individual, couple, family, and group interventions as part of a client’s integrated therapeutic programme.

  • Case management (with supervision/consultation):

    • Handle cases of moderate severity, risk, and complexity
    • Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs
    • Collaborate with other agencies as appropriate
