Mental Health Recovery Support Worker

Internally Advertised Role: Community Mental Health Hub Worker

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, practical, and motivated individual to join York’s Community Mental Health Hub at Acomb Garth.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a developing, multi-agency mental health service. You will collaborate with colleagues from health, social care, and voluntary sector organisations, providing a welcoming, person-centred space for people experiencing mental health difficulties. Your support will extend beyond the building into the wider community.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Directly work with individuals accessing the Hub, helping them:
    • Identify personal strengths
    • Build confidence
    • Develop key skills
    • Connect with appropriate support
  • Provide practical and emotional support relating to:
    • Wellbeing
    • Daily living skills
    • Social connection and independence
    • Accessing community resources
    • Participation in activities
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment within the Hub
  • Exhibit experience in working with adults with mental health needs, including:
    • Building trusting relationships
    • Clear communication
    • Managing competing priorities
    • Adapting to changing situations calmly
  • Operate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team while exercising independent initiative on a daily basis

Preferred Qualities & Experience

We are most interested in applicants who demonstrate:

  • A commitment to strengths-based, person-centred, and co-produced approaches
  • Local knowledge of York or experience in York’s community
  • Creativity, flexibility, and strong belief in the potential for recovery and improved quality of life
  • Understanding of mental health welfare, safeguarding policies, and safeguarding procedures for vulnerable people

Shift Details

  • Current schedule: 3 x 12-hour shifts per week
  • Hours: 07:30–20:00, including weekend working requirements
