Mental Health Support Worker
Location: Brighton, BN1 1FN Contract: Full-time Permanent Salary: £27,580.80 – £28,100.80 per year Essential: Car driver required due to travel across the Burgess Hill/Sussex area
About the Role
If you’re passionate about the mental health sector and want to make a meaningful difference, this fantastic opportunity as a Mental Health Support Worker in our specialised DORS (Discharge) Team awaits you.
You’ll work within a multi-disciplinary team to support individuals in their first six weeks post-discharge, reducing the risk of hospital readmissions. Your role will involve engaging with vulnerable clients to ensure smooth, safe transitions back into the community.

Job Role
This fast-paced position focuses on supporting individuals navigating mental health crises. Your key responsibility will be to:
- Provide short-term, high-intensity support for up to six weeks per client.
- Adapt quickly to changing scenarios, demonstrating flexibility and strong problem-solving skills.
- Work as a recovery-focused specialist, offering assistance in areas such as:
- Care coordination
- Crisis intervention
- Splinting (to prevent re-admissions)

Note: While experience or qualifications are desirable, we welcome motivated individuals who share our vision.
Working hours are typically Monday to Friday, though occasional weekend support may be required based on client needs.
Key Duties
- Deliver a person-centred service, promoting independence.
- Conduct dynamic risk assessments, developing tailored support plans.
- Monitor wellbeing and manage risk effectively.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and national procedures.
- Support safe discharges whilst reducing hospital readmissions via client-specific home visits.
- Collaborate across a multi-disciplinary team, including professionals from varied backgrounds.
- Commit to professional development, maintaining compliance with mandatory and specialist training.
Travel Arrangement: Commuting across West Sussex is required. Day-to-day travel expenses (excluding home-to-work) will be reimbursed.

Requirements
Essential Skills
- Background in mental health, learning disabilities (LD), or neurodiversity support (preferred).
- Ability to intervene professionally in situations of inappropriate or harmful behaviours.
- Experience applying therapeutic de-escalation or crisis intervention techniques.
- Quick adaptability in response to unexpected changes or urgent needs.
- Ability to engage and encourage participation from support recipients.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office.
Desired Skills
- Prior experience directly supporting individuals with mental health conditions.
- Proven ability within a community-based service environment.
