Mentor (Women's Trailblazer)

Position: Mentor (Women’s Trailblazer)

Location: Flexible – home and community-based with travel across County Durham

Salary: £25,664 + excellent benefits

Hours: 35 hours per week (flexible working)

Status: Fixed-term until 31 January 2027

Closing date: 12 July 2026

At The Wise Group, we are a leading social enterprise delivering Relational Mentoring across employment, poverty prevention, justice, and community support. We work alongside individuals facing complex challenges, helping them build confidence, stability, and pathways to long-term opportunity.

We are seeking a Mentor to join the Durham Women’s Trailblazer service, supporting women experiencing multi-layered challenges, including:

  • Poverty
  • Poor mental health
  • Isolation
  • Trauma
  • Caring responsibilities
  • Involvement in the justice system

Every woman’s journey is unique.

Using our Relational Mentoring approach, you will:

  • Build trusted, relationship-based support with women to help them identify strengths.
  • Help them overcome barriers, access support, and progress toward their goals.
  • Assist with wellbeing, confidence-building, reconnecting with services, skills development, training, and/or employment opportunities.

This is a flexible, community-focused role where no two days are the same. You will:

  • Support women in their local communities.
  • Manage your own caseload independently.
  • Work closely with partner organisations to connect women to:
    • Support services
    • Opportunities
    • Resources needed for progress and independence.

As the programme advances into Year 2, the focus will shift toward community-based coaching, helping women build self-sufficiency, community connections, and pathways toward employment and long-term opportunity.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-to-one Relational Mentoring to women facing complex, intersecting challenges.
  • Collaborate with women to set goals and create practical action plans.
  • Empower individuals to build confidence, resilience, and stability.
  • Support women in navigating local services, overcoming barriers, and pursuing opportunities (e.g., education, training, employment).
  • Connect women with relevant community resources, training programmes, and employment pathways.
  • Develop strong partnerships with referral agencies and partner organisations.
  • Record and review progress using digital systems and CRM platforms.
  • Contribute to a service that fosters long-term transformation.

About You

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Build positive, professional relationships quickly and authentically.
  • Are compassionate, adaptable, and solution-focused.
  • Understand trauma-informed and person-centred approaches.
  • Know how to motivate, empower, and support people experiencing multiple challenges.
  • Work effectively independently while managing a diverse caseload.
  • Possess strong organisational skills and clear communication.
  • Are comfortable with Microsoft 365 and CRM systems.
  • Have experience (not mandatory) in:
    • Mentoring
    • Advocacy
    • Employability support
    • Community development
    • Justice, housing, or health services.
  • Share our belief that relationships can transform lives.
