About The Role
We are seeking an MEP Commercial Director to join our team on one of our flagship infrastructure projects at Old Oak Common. As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will provide strategic commercial leadership across the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Health (MEPH) works, helping to deliver one of the UK's most complex and significant station developments.
With responsibility for a portfolio of major MEP packages valued at approximately £500m, you will lead all aspects of commercial delivery across procurement, contract management, change control, cost performance, risk and opportunity management, and commercial reporting. Working closely with project and functional leaders, you will drive commercial excellence, maximise value and ensure successful project outcomes across a highly complex delivery environment.
Leading a team of commercial professionals, you will champion best practice, develop commercial capability and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability and high performance. This is a rare opportunity to play a defining role on a landmark infrastructure programme that will leave a lasting legacy on the UK's transport network.
What you'll be doing
As part of the Project Senior Commercial Team supporting the development of the commercial strategy for MEP delivery and support the delivery of project objectives.
As a senior commercial leader, lead by example to:
- Ensure a personal relentless focus on Zero Harm and actively support the delivery of positive economic, social and environmental outcomes
- Build, support and develop high performing commercial teams
- Demonstrate Leadership Behaviours in line with Project values
- Control costs and effectively manage project budgets and forecasts
- Ensure compliance with all Company Policies, Procedures and Commercial Governance requirements
- Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of major MEP packages and subcontract agreements such as contract notices, payment processes, change management, claims, disputes and final accounts
- Lead procurement activities including tender evaluations, negotiations, subcontract award recommendations and subsubcontractor recommendations
- Manage subcontractor performance, payment mechanisms, variations, change control and final account settlements
- Support project delivery teams in identifying and mitigating commercial risks and maximising opportunities
- Produce, review timely and accurate cost reporting, forecasting and financial performance data
- Assess and report on commercial performance, escalating issues where appropriate
- Drive operational efficiency and identify areas for continuous improvement
- Manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including clients and supply chain partners
- Foster a collaborative environment that promotes engagement, accountability and high performance across the project team

This position is a senior commercial leadership role within the MEP project delivery structure and wider OOC commercial team.
- Lead the commercial management of complex MEP packages, ensuring robust control of cost, value, risk, change and subcontract performance.
- Lead, manage and develop the MEP commercial team, ensuring clear objectives, capability development and effective performance management.
- Work closely with operational, engineering, planning, finance and project controls teams to support successful project delivery.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Who we're looking for
This role is suited to an experienced senior commercial leader with a strong background in MEP delivery, major projects, subcontract management and complex contract environments.
- Strong understanding of complex MEP delivery, including procurement, subcontract management, change control, cost/value management, risk and opportunity, and final account processes.
- Proven experience leading commercial teams on high-value, technically complex projects or programmes with significant experience in MEP delivery and subcontract management.
- Experience of working under complex forms of NEC contract, with the ability to interpret contractual obligations and protect the commercial position of the project.
- Strong leadership capability, negotiation skills, with the ability to set direction, coach others, manage performance and build a high-performing commercial team.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence project leaders, operational teams, clients, subcontractors and supply chain partners.
- Experience in managing complex subcontractor relationships, change control and commercial reporting within high-value projects is essential.
- Commercially astute, excellent commercial acumen, strong financial awareness and delivery focused, with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risk, realising opportunities and commercial performance is accurately reported throughout the project lifecycle.
