Role Description

We are recruiting for a Merchandise Assistant to support Bury Head Office within the JD Sports Fashion merchandising team. This role reports to the Merchandiser and helps execute critical merchandising tasks to support profitability across all sales channels.

Primary Responsibilities:

Order Management (30%)

  • Assist with sizing ratios for smaller brands under Assistant Merchandiser (AM) guidance
  • Create and verify purchase orders (uploading via system, cross-checking accuracy)
  • Reconcile supplier order books and escalate any discrepancies or anomalies

Stock & Inward Operations (35%)

  • Update supplier order books and ETA scheduling
  • Record arrivals as directed by the Merchandiser, ensuring accurate stock intake
  • Act as the first point of contact between the team and warehouse on:
    • Delivery issues
    • Problem orders
  • Conduct cost/retailed price reviews of ordered stock with AM input

Trade Performance & Scheduling (35%)

  • Generate key reports for Monday trade meetings (print/run)
  • Analyse product performance through:
    • Analysis of obsolete/best-selling items
    • Real-time stock level reviews and Ideal Economic Order Quantity (IBT)-refinement
    • Forecast improvements driven by store team feedback
  • Follow up on price amendment requests and retailer queries
  • Review new store performance, recommending actions forsprech
  • Execute daily marketing/campaign-specific stock adjustments
  • Support the team with ad-hoc analytics, reports or cross-departmental insights

Stakeholder Relationships

  • Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships across merchandising, warehouse and buying teams
  • Champion a curiosity-driven culture and proactive problem-solving

Ideal Candidate Profile

To thrive in this role, you should demonstrate: ✅ Passion for JD’s brands, ethos and commitment to the customer ✅ Basic merchandising knowledge, numerate with strong analytical skills ✅ Systems proficiency: Excel expertise and comfort with Microsoft Office tools. ✅ Attention to detail coupled with optimisation-driven mindset ✅ Excellent communication skills—able to engage effectively with stakeholders, suppliers and colleagues ✅ Ownership mindset: initiative, adaptability and independence ✅ Commitment to teamwork and co-creation of solutions
