Senior Merchandising & Trading Specialist

About the Role

Trading Responsibilities

  • OTB management – Monitoring and controlling Open to Buy allocations
  • WSSI forecasting – Developing and reviewing Weekly Stock Status and Inventory forecasting
  • Weekly inventory meetings – Providing actionable insights and recommendations
  • Management information preparation – Compiling and delivering critical trading reports
  • Seasonal trading management – Overseeing sales, stock, and clearance strategies
  • Margin & gross profit optimization – Ensuring adherence to buying margins and profit targets
  • Sales forecast reviews – Evaluating performance and adjusting forecasts as needed
  • Best/worst seller analysis – Identifying trends and recommending proactive actions
  • Stock reduction strategies – Driving cash flow through targeted sales activities
  • Clearance & markdown planning – Collaborating with buyers to execute strategic pricing
  • End-to-end stock flow coordination – From wholesale receipt to store/DC distribution
  • Stock turn & budget alignment – Ensuring business-wide stock levels meet financial targets
  • Promotions & re-buys – Recommendations for targeted sales promotions
  • Supplier relationship management – Fostering mutually beneficial supplier agreements

Strategy & Planning Responsibilities

  • Strategic input – Contributing to long-term business and revenue strategies
  • Performance analysis – Drawing insights from historical and in-season data
  • Budget planning – Supporting category-focused budgets, option counts, and buy depth
  • Range plan development – Collaborating with buyers on seasonal offerings
  • Promotional planning – Assisting in seasonal and campaign strategies
  • Process optimisation – Identifying and implementing merchandising efficiency improvements
  • Cross-functional liaison – Aligning departmental plans with broader business goals
  • Leadership & mentorship – Deputising for the Head of Merchandising as needed
  • Team support – Guiding junior team members and fostering their development

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong computer literacy, with advanced Excel skills
  • Solid WSSI understanding – Capacity planning and forecasting experience
  • Bold analytical skills – Ability to extract insights from complex data
  • Effective decision-making and time management – Juggling priorities efficiently
  • Commercial awareness – Deep knowledge of the homewares sector and broader marketplace
  • Collaborative mindset – Thriving in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
