Merchandising Assistant

Merchandising Assistant - Decor (Permanent Position)

Salary: Up to £32,000 + Pension + Performance Bonus (PMI) + ShareSave + 6.6 weeks holiday + Hybrid Working (3 days per week in the office)

Location: Southampton, Store Support Office

What’s the Job?

As a Merchandising Assistant, you will support the Merchandising Manager and Assistant Merchandiser by coordinating a suite of analytics, reporting, trading updates, and query resolution. This ensures a profitable sales performance across all channels, including digital and in-store.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Strategy & Insight:

    • Work with Category Merchandiser and Assistant Merchandiser to develop strategies that delight customers.
    • Compile trading updates, reports, and insights to identify growth opportunities and risk minimisation.
  • Analysis & Reporting:

    • Manage sales performance, forecasting, and margin reporting within the management information suite.
    • Flag risks and propose actionable solutions to optimise sales across online, in-store, and wholesale channels.

  • Project Coordination:

    • Collaborate with the buying team on range reviews, promotions, and product launches.
    • Organise regular project meetings and track key milestones to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Stock & Supply Chain:

    • Work with Supply Chain to maintain optimal stock levels while staying within budget constraints.
  • Campaign Execution:

    • Ensure trading plans and campaigns are executed on time and accurately, escalating risks to relevant stakeholders.
  • Stock Exit & Resolution:

    • Plan and implement stock exit strategies across all channels to minimise write-offs.
    • Serve as the primary contact for resolving store and stakeholder queries (e.g., via Viva Engage for digital feedback).
  • Market Intelligence:

    • Conduct regular store and competitor visits to stay ahead of trends and emerging opportunities.

What We Need

To excel in this role, you should have experience in the following areas:

  • Admin & Organisation:

    • Proficient at prioritising tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Communication & Relationships:

    • Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with internal teams, suppliers, and customers.
    • Ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels of the business.
  • Proactiveness & Adaptability:

    • Self-starter with the ability to anticipate needs and adjust to changing priorities.

    • Comfort using data, trends, and financial metrics to inform decision-making.

    • Highly meticulous in reviewing reports, plans, and execution quality.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulae, data analysis) and PowerPoint.
