M&A Director - Survey Solutions

Location: Birmingham

Recruitment Partner: SF Search Partners

A high-growth, PE-backed business is seeking to appoint its first dedicated M&A Director, to accelerate growth through strategic acquisition in a rapidly consolidating market.

About the Role

The first M&A Director will lead the group’s acquisition strategy and execution, recognising the company is moving from organic growth towards scaled expansion via consolidated deal activity.


Responsibilities

  • Align and implement the group’s M&A strategy with its broader business objectives
    • Define and develop the group’s M&A criteria to guide screening and evaluation
    • Establish and maintain key industry relationships for target sourcing

  • Identify and evaluate potential acquisition targets, moving qualified opportunities from initial interest to offer stage

    • Lead financial modelling, valuation analysis, and financing proposals
    • Compile investment papers for board and investor review as needed
  • Manage the entire M&A pipeline via CRM platform:

    • Screen and delete or progress technology fit evaluations
    • Oversee end-to-end transaction processes from engagement to close
    • Direct financial, legal, and operational due diligence of target businesses
  • Develop acquisition integration plans to ensure smooth adoption by acquired entities into the group’s operations

    • Lay the groundwork for cultural alignment post-acquisition

  • Present regular progress reports to senior management on:
    • M&A activity performance, challenges, and financial outcomes

Requirements

Experience & Expertise

  • Proven track record of sourcing and delivering successful acquisition pipelines in a PE-backed/high-growth environment
  • Experience within professional services industries, preferably in consolidating, fragmented markets
  • Expertise in financial modelling, valuation analysis, due diligence, and integration planning
  • Operations-aligned leadership: Must synthesise transactional due diligence with practical transition execution

Location

  • Must be Birmingham-based (critically important for this first hire)
