Metals Operations Analyst
Job Title: Physical Commodities – Metals Operations Analyst (Hedge Fund)
Location: London
Working Model: In-office (5 days per week) – business-facing role
About the Role
A leading multi-asset hedge fund in London is seeking a Physical Commodities, Metals Operations Analyst to join its growing Metals Trading Operations team. This is a unique opportunity to support a rapidly expanding Physical Metals Commodities business, providing critical operational support to newly formed metals trading desks.
The role covers day-to-day trade management across concentrates, refined metals trading, and risk management, encompassing:
- Physical and financial metals commodity derivative operations
The business, which has experienced double-digit growth, is expanding its assets under management and investment strategies. Key responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing metals commodities trade bookings, trade capture, and trade enrichment (reconciliation/settlement)
- Managing the trade lifecycle (physical trade allocations, logistics, and commercial metals operations)
The firm is organised around conservative yet dynamic growth, offering strong career progression and cross-training opportunities for analysts in high-volume trading environments.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will support the Metals Trading team by:
- Executing metals commodities trade bookings
- Conducting real-time trade capture, enrichment, settlement reconciliations
- Managing the physical trade lifecycle (allocations, logistical coordination)
- Driving operational efficiencies through better processes and cost savings
- This workload requires knowledge and precision across metal Base & Precious commodities traded through leading exchanges.
- Acting as a middle-office operations analyst for physical commodities trading.

Requirements
Essential
- 1–5 years’ experience in fast-paced Metals Commodities Operations, specifically within:
- A hedge fund, Tier 1 investment bank, top-tier investment manager, or high-frequency trading firm
- Product expertise in Physical Commodities Trading / Exchange Traded Commodities/Metals
- Proven track record of leading process improvements at an operational level to:
- Increase efficiency
- Deliver cost savings
- Boost accuracy
- Demonstrable attitude toward continuous improvement (with clear examples in CV)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum academic qualification: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a reputable institution, especially relevant to finance/energy/commodities operations

Benefits & Compensation
Compensation: £60,000–80,000 base salary + discretionary bonus (up to 40% in line with firm growth/targets).
- Bonus reflects our competitive performance model.
- Other benefits packaged in alongside (typically open market competitive healthcare, pensions/investments, flexible working policies).
Right to Work: Full UK Right to Work required (non-negotiable).
