Role Purpose
The Metering Surveyor is responsible for undertaking site surveys and water meter installations across domestic and commercial properties as part of the company's metering programmes. The role involves assessing water supply arrangements, identifying suitable meter locations, engaging with customers, and ensuring accurate data capture using mobile technology.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting water efficiency initiatives, customer service delivery, and regulatory metering objectives while maintaining high standards of safety and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
Metering Surveys & Installations
- Conduct external and internal site surveys to determine suitable meter installation locations.
- Install water meters where existing infrastructure allows.
- Assess domestic, commercial and agricultural water supplies as part of selective metering programmes.
- Perform water supply route investigations and verification checks.
- Identify and record site conditions that may impact installations.

Technical Assessment
- Trace underground pipes and services using detection equipment such as CAT & Genny.
- Investigate and verify water supply configurations.
- Provide detailed instructions and technical information for follow-on works where required.
- Support Network Maintenance contractors by providing guidance on supply locations and site-specific requirements.
Customer Engagement
- Liaise professionally with customers during site visits and appointments.
- Explain survey findings and metering requirements in a clear and customer-focused manner.
- Promote a positive customer experience while representing the company.
Data & Reporting
- Accurately update work activities using mobile technology and company systems.
- Capture survey findings, installation details and site records.
- Ensure all documentation is completed in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Team Working & Safety
- Attend team meetings, briefings and one-to-one reviews.
- Follow all health, safety and environmental procedures.
- Work independently in the field while contributing effectively as part of a wider operational team.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and share best practice with colleagues.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent customer service focus.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and company procedures.
- Confidence to make informed decisions in the field.
- Methodical and organised approach to work.
- Basic IT literacy and experience using mobile devices and software applications.
- Willingness to undertake additional training and development.

Desirable Skills & Experience
- Water Hygiene certification.
- NRSWA Units 1 and 2 qualifications.
- Understanding of risk assessments and safe working practices.
- Knowledge of highway working requirements.
- Experience of utility surveying or water network operations.
- Understanding of client-contractor relationships and operational delivery models.
