MHE Assessor – Ongoing Contract Roles
Introduction

Shift Details
Rotating shifts (2-week pattern):
- Mon–Thu: 06:00–14:15
- Fri (split shift): 06:00–12:00, then 13:00–21:30 (or 11:00–16:00)
- Initial training period (6 weeks): Day shift focus before rotating into defined shifts.
Compensation:
- From £16.24 per hour
- Paid weekly
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Health & Safety Leadership – Setting a high standard onsite by prioritising MHE safety culture.
- Inductions & Training Support – Conducting or assisting with Medium Heavy Equipment (MHE) & Manual Handling inductions for all full-time and temporary staff.
- Risk Management – Collaborating with team members on the completion of Risk Assessments (RA) & Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
- Technical Skills Training – Delivering high-quality training via multiple methods (theory, practical, etc.) to support operational areas.
- Quality Compliance – Ensuring all training is recorded and compliant with company policy.
- Skills Auditing – Developing a site skills matrix to monitor operator competency, schedule refresher training, and minimise skill fade risks.
- MHE Operator Oversight – Actively managing operator numbers to reduce gaps in experience and risk.
- Competency Validation – Ensuring ongoing MHE license competence via refresher training, in-workplace assessments, and corrective action when unsafe practices are identified.
- Incident Investigation – Assisting in accidents/investigations related to MHE operations, implementing corrective actions, and sharing best practices to prevent reoccurrence.
- Risk Mitigation – Maintaining a proactive approach to safely reduce risks arising from MHE operations.

Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
- AITT ACCREDITED Category 1 instructor/examiner licence (MHE training qualification) – CRITICAL
- FLT licence covering Reach, Counterbalance, & PPT (Pedestrian Pallet Trucks) – CRITICAL
- High attention to detail
- Strong team player with ability to work autonomously on initiative
- Tight deadline adherence
- Flexibility to accommodate shift rotations for training needs
- Exceptional communication (oral and written)
- Strong time management and problem-solving skills
