Job Description

Role: MHE Trainer

Purpose of role: To undertake the controlled and formal assessment, familiarisation awareness and where applicable, remedial training and testing of employees and agency workers to operate MHE equipment whilst on site. To maintain compliance with R.T.I.T.B standards, guidelines and best practice.

Reports to: Operations Support Manager

Location: Islip

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a full suite of accredited MHE training (basic and refresher) to include PPT, CBT, RT or other equipment the Islip site may use together with FLT battery changing.
  • Create training plans to ensure all permanent, temporary and agency colleagues are refresher trained within appropriate timelines.
  • Ensure trained personnel are entered onto the training register and issued relevant MHE certificates in a prompt and timely manner.
  • Support the operation to proactively identify trainees whose actions/behaviour impact on safety, quality and productive performance.
  • Ensure regular FLT audits and compliance inspections are conducted and employees challenged about unsafe practices.
  • Review all accident and near miss reports involving fork lift trucks, assisting line management and EHS personnel in carrying out efficient accident investigations and make recommendations to prevent recurrence where necessary.
  • To ensure all personnel are aware of their health, safety & environmental responsibilities through the provision of coaching and training as appropriate.
  • To support the Company Substance Misuse policy with regard to on-site drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Company procedure.
  • To ensure all changes to policies and procedures, or any other change activity is fully implemented and supported throughout the change process.
  • To lead employees to create a culture which encourages safe behaviour and environmental best practice.
  • Drive a safety culture whereby each team member operates with safety as the primary concern, and whereby safety challenges to colleagues are encouraged and developed.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Review of all Safety Conversations and MHE Observations to identify trends and performance issues on individual shifts, and make recommendations for preventative action to minimise / prevent recurrence.
  • Support members of the management team in developing and improving their knowledge of MHE use and control.
  • On-going monitoring of MHE operating processes and make recommendations for physical changes to the operational working area that may reduce incidents / damage to company property.
  • Lead the Colleague Coaches on your nominated shift(s) when they are assigned to deliver coaching support, providing support and guidance when required.
  • Take ownership for MHE fleet on site, acting as liaison between Automation and Engineering Manager and nominated MHE fleet provider e.g. Toyota – understanding trends for equipment damage (shift, cost, frequency etc).
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert when new MHE is trialled on site, engaging directly with the MHE Contracts Manager for Supply Chain.
  • Provision of recommended SOP changes to Training Administrator with sign off from self or other relevant stakeholders, so that the master version can be updated to ensure version control.
  • All other duties as required.

Qualifications

Essential knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Minimum 3+ years in Logistics industry
  • Current holder of RTITB instructor certification
  • Strong proven track record of working within a logistics / supply chain training function
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships at all management levels
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to highlight and challenge relevant issues
  • Motivated self-starter
  • Strong team player who is confident and personable
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise tasks effectively
