Job Title: MHST EMHP / CWP | Mental Health Practitioner (Children and Young People)
The Hillingdon Mental Health Support Team is seeking a qualified EMHP (Education Mental Health Practitioner) or Generic Mental Health Practitioner with established experience in supporting Children and Young People (CYP) within mental health services. Ideal candidates will have a passion for promoting positive mental health outcomes and delivering individual/group-based therapeutic interventions.
We also welcome newly qualified occupational therapists, mental health nurses, social workers, or professionals holding postgraduate qualifications in CBT or other relevant therapy modalities.
About the Role
This is an NHS Trust role under the Green Paper for Transforming Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services—part of a programme focused on low-intensity interventions.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Delivering CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and low-intensity interventions for CYP experiencing mild to moderate anxiety, depression, or behavioural difficulties, alongside their families/carers.
- Conducting assessments to identify suitable evidence-based interventions adapted to each child’s needs and cultural background.
- Facilitating rapid access to higher-level support for those displaying more severe mental health needs.
- Advocating whole-school approaches to mental health, training staff, and building awareness within education settings.
You will work closely with schools in Hillingdon, tailor mental health services within communities, and support collaborative working with families, educators, and specialists.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess & Treat: Implement outcome-focused therapy in schools, focusing on mild-to-moderate mental health challenges (anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioural issues). Deliver therapy using CBT or solution-focused methods alone or in group settings.
- Refer & Support: Accurately identify escalation needs, enabling timely specialist referral pathways for complex cases.
- Advocate: Train educators/staff on mental health awareness, resilience, and wellbeing strategies, fostering Whole School Approaches.
- Build Partnerships: Consult with schools, families, and other agencies to create personalised treatment plans. Empower families and CYP to informed decision-making around interventions.
- Safeguarding: Maintain awareness of safeguarding issues, and liaise with relevant safeguarding services.
- Diversify Outreach: Adapt services for children with diverse backgrounds, including exceptions, speech/language needs, and neurodivergence.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
