Senior Mental Health Practitioner (SMHP) – Schools & Colleges
As a Senior Mental Health Practitioner (SMHP), you will provide mental health and emotional wellbeing support to children and young people within schools and colleges, using evidence-based interventions. This role operates as a prevention/early help service, working closely with colleagues across the CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) directorate to ensure young people receive the appropriate support aligned with the THRIVE model.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer mental health interventions to improve emotional wellbeing in young people
- Assist trainees and team members through supervision and guidance (supervision training will be provided)
- Develop supervisory and leadership skills, contributing to the team’s professional growth
- Embed a whole-school/whole-college approach to mental health
- Strengthen liaison and consultation with educational staff

- Liaison, assessment, training, and consultation on the emotional and psychological wellbeing of children and young people
- Collaborate in joint assessments with other services
- Provide brief interventions for individual clients as needed
- Support schools and educational settings in identifying emotional needs and directing students/staff to appropriate support
- Adapt workload distribution based on service demands, in agreement with the clinical lead
