Microfluidics Engineer

London, UK

An ambitious, biotechnology start-up developing next-generation DNA synthesis technology is looking to hire a Microfluidics Engineer. Combining microfluidics, chemistry, automation, and synthetic biology, they're building technology that will transform how DNA is manufactured.

The Microfluidics Engineer will help design and optimise the microfluidic systems at the heart of their platform as well as develop, prototype, and test innovative microfluidic devices, helping take ideas from concept through to scalable products.

What you'll do

  • Design and develop microfluidic devices and fluid handling systems
  • Prototype, test, and optimise device performance
  • Integrate microfluidics with automated laboratory workflows
  • Collaborate with molecular biologists and consultants to improve DNA synthesis performance
  • Support the transition from R&D to scalable manufacturing

About you

  • MSc in Microfluidics, Mechanical, Biomedical, or Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline
  • Strong practical experience designing and developing microfluidic systems as well as designing or integrating custom electronics for microfluidic systems
  • Solid grounding in fluid mechanics and CFD, with practical use of Ansys CFD or equivalent
  • Experience using CAD for microfluidics and related electronics
  • Experience using automated liquid handling systems
  • Experience working in GMP or quality-driven environments, including SOP development
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach

Desirable experience

  • Experience in DNA synthesis, lab-on-a-chip technologies, molecular biology, automation, or life science instrumentation would be advantageous but is not essential.

Candidates from biotech, diagnostics, medical devices, analytical instrumentation, or other microfluidics-focused industries are encouraged to apply.
