Microsoft 365 Solutions Engineer


Microsoft 365 Solution Engineer (Microsoft Technology Specialist) – Internal Technology

Department: Internal Technology Location: Oxford, UK

About the Role

Based in our Oxford office, you will join the Engineering Team within Internal Technology, responsible for the design, delivery, continuous improvement, and escalation support of the core services enabling Aurora’s staff to perform at their best.

Reporting to Architecture and Engineering, you’ll work as a proactive engineer across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams—plus the identity and network services that connect them. You’ll drive operational improvements through meticulous attention to detail, governance enhancements, and the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure a smoothly functioning environment.

This role demands independence, teamwork, and collaboration across business users and IT colleagues to align technology with business needs. You’ll contribute to Sprint goals while shaping a dynamic, data-driven workplace.


Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering Excellence

  • Own a proactive engineering mindset to implement processes that empower the Internal Technology function.
  • Lead by example—share expertise, mentor junior colleagues, and foster operational and professional growth within the team.

2. Microsoft Technology Expertise

  • Design, advise, collaborate, and build best-practice solutions across Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Windows, Entra ID, and Intune.
  • Stay abreast of evolving Microsoft technologies and provide strategic insights on integrating new solutions.

3. Efficiency & Employee Experience

  • Work cross-functionally to optimise Microsoft technology in line with business goals.
  • Enhance employee experience by ensuring seamless, efficient use of Microsoft 365 tools for productivity and collaboration.

4. Project Involvement

  • Participate in projects that extend or enhance the tech landscape.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, design solutions, and ensure successful delivery.

5. System Ownership

  • Take ownership of Microsoft ecosystem components (e.g., identity, collaboration platforms).
  • Troubleshoot issues, implement improvements, and maintain high availability in collaboration with IT support.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Required

  • Proven experience designing/delivering well-engineered Microsoft 365 solutions (SharePoint, Exchange Online, OneDrive, Teams).
  • Hands-on experience with Entra ID, Intune, and Microsoft Endpoint Manager (including managed endpoint configurations/deployments).
  • Ability to self-directly execute backlog stories with minimal supervision.
  • Strong documentation capabilities (SOPs, knowledge articles, processes).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills—able to collaborate cross-functionally at all business levels.
  • Attribute to detail, time management, and adaptability.
  • Passion for technology and solving business challenges.

Desirable (but not mandatory)

  • Experience with additional Microsoft technologies: Power Platform (Copilot Studio), Purview, Defender, Cloud App Security.
  • Proficiency in networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls, hybrid Azure connectivity).
  • Microsoft certifications and/or hands-on experience.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell and Microsoft Graph for automation/reporting.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps tooling (e.g., Azure DevOps, Git, Terraform, OpenTofu).
  • Experience with Tier-1 systems: Azure, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Jira, Confluence, Salesforce, SAP SuccessFactors, Dynamics 365 F&O.
