Grade / level: Senior Consultant
As a Senior Consultant – Data Engineering in delaware’s Data, Analytics & AI practice, you design and build the scalable, governed data platforms that power enterprise reporting and AI - on Microsoft Fabric and/or Databricks. You own data engineering workstreams end-to-end: ingestion, medallion lakehouse architecture, transformation pipelines, and curated, semantic-ready data models. You set the engineering standard, mentor other engineers, and provide the senior delivery capacity that keeps our flagship Fabric programmes moving.

What will you be doing?
Engineering delivery
- Lead data engineering workstreams end-to-end, owning architecture, build quality, and delivery.
- Build ingestion from Dynamics 365 (F&O / FSCM, CE), Dataverse, SQL, APIs, and file sources into OneLake / Lakehouse.
- Engineer the medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) using Spark / PySpark notebooks, Dataflows Gen2, and pipelines.
- Deliver dimensional models and curated Gold SQL endpoints / semantic models ready for Power BI.
- Implement Databricks lakehouse solutions (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Workflows) where that is the client platform.
- Own orchestration, CI/CD (deployment pipelines, Git), monitoring, optimization, and cost management.
Governance & quality
- Implement security, lineage, metadata-driven frameworks, and audit across the platform.
- Define and enforce engineering standards, testing, and documentation.
Practice growth
- Provide engineering input to pre-sales - estimating, architecture, and PoCs.
- Build reusable frameworks and accelerators (e.g., metadata-driven ingestion) that speed delivery.
- Contribute to delaware’s DAAI capabilities and go-to-markets (Fabric data platform, BPA, Fabric AI).

Is there a match?
Essential
- Strong hands-on data engineering on Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, OneLake, pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, Spark notebooks) and/or Databricks (Delta Lake, Spark, Unity Catalog, Workflows).
- Expert SQL and strong Python / PySpark.
- Deep understanding of medallion / lakehouse architecture and dimensional modelling.
- Experience of data integration patterns - Fabric Link, Dataverse, ADF / Synapse pipelines, API, and file ingestion.
- CI/CD, Git, and deployment-pipeline experience, plus performance tuning and optimization.
- Proven consulting / client-delivery background; able to lead workstreams and mentor.
- Eligible to work in the UK and willing to travel to client sites as required.
Desirable
- Certifications - DP-700 (Fabric Data Engineer), DP-600, Databricks Certified Data Engineer (Associate/Professional) or DP-203.
- Wider Azure - ADLS, Synapse, Data Factory, Key Vault - and Microsoft Purview governance.
- Power BI semantic modelling and DAX.
- Dynamics 365 / Dataverse and Business Performance Analytics (BPA).
- Real-time / streaming (Eventstream, Kafka) and data-quality tooling.
- Industry experience in housing, energy/renewables, financial services, or public sector.
Certifications
Delaware actively supports certification and continuous learning. For this role, we look for, or will support you to achieve:
- DP-700 – Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer Associate
- DP-600 – Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate
- Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate / Professional (where Databricks is used)
- DP-203 – Azure Data Engineer (advantageous)
What success looks like (first 6–12 months)
- Provided senior engineering continuity on a flagship Microsoft Fabric programme.
- Owns a platform workstream end-to-end — ingestion through to curated Gold models.
- Delivered a reusable engineering framework or accelerator adopted by the team.
- Actively mentoring engineers and raising delivery quality and standards.
