About the Company
My client is a fast-moving software consultancy delivering high-quality full-stack digital solutions for clients across multiple sectors. They work directly with clients to shape technical designs and user journeys, and pride themselves on a collaborative, knowledge-sharing engineering culture where developers are trusted to make sound, reasoned decisions.
The Role
This is a hands-on full-stack role covering the Java and React stack, working closely with clients to agree technical designs and advise on effort and implementation trade-offs. You'll join a fast-paced team reporting to the Head of Engineering, with genuine autonomy and room to influence how solutions get built. Positions are open across Junior, Mid-level, and Senior, so whether you're building deep technical expertise or looking to mentor others, there's scope to grow into the role.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and maintain full-stack applications across the Java and React stack
- Collaborate directly with clients to agree technical designs and user journeys
- Advise clients and internal stakeholders on estimated effort and technical implications
- Apply best practices in coding, scalability, and security throughout delivery
- Build and maintain microservices architecture using Spring Boot
- Develop modern, responsive front-end interfaces using React
- Communicate technical designs clearly through documentation and presentations
- Translate non-functional requirements into practical technical solutions
- Mentor and share knowledge with colleagues across the engineering team
What You'll Need
Essential:
- 3+ years' Java experience, with 2+ years' hands-on Spring Boot
- Microservices architecture experience
- At least 3 of: TDD, BDD/Cucumber, performance testing (JMeter), OWASP/penetration testing knowledge, Kubernetes, HTTP API design, SQL databases (Postgres, MySQL, or MariaDB)
- Experience with at least 3 AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, Route 53, Elasticsearch, EKS, CloudWatch, or CloudFront)
- Strong knowledge of React, with experience across at least 3 of: Vanilla JS (ES6+), Redux, React Router, Tanstack, Next.js, React Query, React Native, or TypeScript
- Mobile-first development and responsive design experience
- Proven experience testing applications with a strong eye for performance
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team

Desirable / Nice to Have:
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, AWS or Kubernetes, and NoSQL databases
- Experience with Kafka, Spring Security/OAuth2, or API tooling (OpenAPI/Swagger)
- Ability to scope customer requirements and contribute to technical estimation and planning
