Role Overview

We have an opportunity for someone to join us as a Middle Office Analyst to work in a truly global environment, providing daily P&L reporting, exposure analysis and IPV across Hartree’s trading books while partnering closely with traders, risk, IT and global Middle Office teams.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for daily PnL reporting of Hartree trading books. This includes monitoring of transactions, mark-to-market profit and loss (P&L), exposure and Independent Price Verification (IPV).
  • Analyze and identify P&L and exposure drivers of various trading books encompassing a wide array of commodities and financial instruments.
  • Work with global Middle Office, Risk, Trading/front office and IT to identify and implement opportunities for automation and simplification.
  • Handle ad-hoc requests from traders and other stakeholders.
  • Update/maintain trading system reference data, from book reporting structure to instrument creation.

Skills And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or equivalent work experience in a commodity trading environment; advanced degrees a plus.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience working in financial or energy risk management with a strong understanding of commodity trading, preferably in crude, gas, refined products or metal markets.
  • Ability to proactively spot and solve complex issues with minimal supervision as a self-starter.
  • Critical thinker with strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Handle multiple job responsibilities, set priorities, maintain a high level of accomplishment and implement process improvements.
  • Ability to synthesize and communicate complex PnL/risk concepts and recommendations in a clear, logical manner to traders and management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including communication, teamwork and conflict management. Ability to build relationships across function, and ability to challenge front office when necessary.
  • Work proficiently in a fast-paced, open-concept trading floor environment.
  • Advanced computer skills (e.g. high level of Excel proficiency, VBA, SQL/Python).
  • Ability to design and manage data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI).
