Middle Office BA
Overview Glencore's Information Technology group develops and supports a broad range of applications and platforms to support a fast-moving global commodity trading business. The London-based Middle Office IT team primarily supports Energy trading across Oil, Gas, Power, LNG, Carbon and Environmental products, partnering closely with Trading, Trade Support, Operations, Risk, Compliance and Regulatory teams. The team is responsible for strategic and tactical initiatives across trade lifecycle management, regulatory reporting, surveillance, broker reconciliation, exchange onboarding, market data integration and operational controls. The role requires strong functional knowledge of commodities trading, stakeholder management capability and the ability to bridge business priorities with technology delivery. This role will work closely with Front Office, Middle Office, Trade Support, Compliance, Operations, Quantitative, Architecture and Engineering teams globally. Key Responsibilities Business Analysis & Delivery Build and manage strong relationships with stakeholders including Trading, Trade Support, Compliance, Operations, Risk, Product Owners, Enterprise Architects, Development Leads and external vendors/exchanges. Elicit, analyse and document business requirements through workshops, process analysis, interviews and data-driven investigation. Translate business requirements into high quality user stories, functional specifications, process flows and acceptance criteria. Drive functional design discussions across multiple platforms and integration points. Support backlog management and prioritisation aligned to strategic business objectives. Partner with development teams throughout the SDLC to ensure functional alignment and successful delivery. Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, refinement sessions, sprint reviews and retrospectives. Coordinate and support SIT/UAT testing activities, defect triage and production validation. Facilitate training, knowledge transfer and adoption sessions for business users. Commodities & Middle Office Domain Responsibilities Strong understanding of the Gas & Power trading lifecycle across physical and derivatives products. Experience supporting Power, Gas, LNG and Environmental products across trade capture, scheduling, confirmations, settlements and invoicing processes. Knowledge of exchange-traded and OTC Gas & Power products including futures, swaps, options and spot trading. Understanding of nominations, scheduling and operational workflows within Gas & Power markets. Experience working with trade flows from exchanges and brokers into ETRM platforms. Exposure to Power market concepts such as nodes, balancing, settlements, congestion and hourly trading constructs. Familiarity with Gas & Power regulatory reporting obligations including REMIT and EMIR. Experience supporting reconciliations across exchanges, brokers, counterparties and downstream operational systems. Understanding of STP trade flows, exception management and operational controls within Energy trading environments. Experience analysing integrations between market platforms, ETRM systems, pricing providers and downstream reporting systems. Exposure to exchange onboarding and market connectivity initiatives for Energy trading platforms. Understanding of trade events lifecycle including amendments, allocations, confirmations, settlements and lifecycle exceptions. Knowledge of market data and pricing services used within Gas & Power trading environments is advantageous. Strategic & Technical Responsibilities Contribute to portfolio roadmap discussions and strategic initiatives. Support architecture and solution design discussions for scalable and maintainable platforms. Understand data lineage, interfaces and system dependencies across the Middle Office landscape. Contribute to business analysis standards, governance and best practices within the organisation. Assist with vendor engagement, onboarding and solution evaluation where required. Key Competencies & Skills Functional & Business Knowledge Strong experience within commodities trading environments, preferably Energy (Oil, Gas, Power, LNG, Environmental Products). Strong understanding of the physical and derivatives trade lifecycle. Good understanding of exchange traded and OTC products. Knowledge of trade operations, reconciliations, confirmations and regulatory reporting processes. Exposure to market surveillance, market abuse monitoring or compliance-related initiatives is advantageous. Business Analysis & Delivery Skills Proven experience delivering complex cross-functional projects within trading environments. Strong requirements gathering, process modelling and documentation capability. Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across business and technology functions. Strong communication and presentation skills, including interaction with senior stakeholders. Ability to challenge requirements constructively and drive clarity. Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery models. Strong organisational, planning and prioritisation skills. Technical & Data Skills Good understanding of system integrations, APIs and event-driven architectures. Experience working with data analysis tools and querying technologies such as SQL. Familiarity with Jira, Confluence and Agile tooling. Understanding of data flows, reconciliation processes and operational controls. Exposure to cloud, data platforms or analytics solutions is advantageous. Education & Experience 7+ years of Business Analysis experience within commodities trading or financial markets. Experience working on global, multi-region delivery initiatives. Experience working across both bespoke and vendor/platform-based solutions. Degree educated or equivalent industry experience. ISEB, CBAP, IIBA or Agile certifications are advantageous but not mandatory.
