School Counselor (Prek-12) – DeWitt Public Schools, DeWitt, MI
About the Role
DeWitt Public Schools is seeking a dedicated School Counselor (PreK–12) to join our supportive team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive guidance and support to students, fostering academic, social-emotional, and career development while collaborating with teachers, parents, and administrators.

Reporting To: Superintendent/Assistant Principal Work Location: DeWitt Public Schools, DeWitt, Michigan Employment Type: Full-time Start Date: Immediate
Responsibilities
The School Counselor will:
- Implement and oversee a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program aligned with the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) model
- Provide individual and group counseling to support students’ social-emotional well-being
- Offer academic advising, college and career readiness, including SAT/ACT preparation and post-secondary planning
- Facilitate peer mediation, conflict resolution, and restorative practices
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and community agencies to address student needs
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and flu/COVID vaccination clinics as required by district policies
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and district guidelines
- Develop and track student progress using age-appropriate checklists and academic plans
- Partner with community organizations to support at-risk students
- Prepare monthly reports on counseling services provided
- Assist in the intervention process for students in crisis

Requirements
- Master’s Degree in School Counseling (or equivalent field) with Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) or Nationally Certified Professional Coach (NCPC) preferred
- Michigan School Counselor Certification (or eligibility for certification)
- Experience working in K-12 education as a counselor, teacher, or administrator (1+ year preferred)
- Strong knowledge of ASCA model, social-emotional learning (SEL), and trauma-informed practices
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in a public school setting
- Availability to work within district hours (including some summer assignments, if applicable)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with medical needs or behavioral health concerns
- Familiarity with Michigan Merit Exam (MME) and state education standards
- Bilingual skills (Spanish or Arabic) are a plus
