If so, we’re looking for an experienced Midwife to join our Hospital Based Triage Team.
About the Role
Our Maternity Triage Department is the first point of call for all women attending our unit. We’re seeking a dynamic, inspirational Midwife with excellent skills to (occasionally) support the Delivery Suite while primarily based in triage.
This role isn’t just a job—it’s a chance to make a difference in the lives of women and families across Birmingham and the Black Country, one of the UK’s most diverse regions.
Key Responsibilities
Key Duties
- Be the first port of call for women seeking maternity care, offering expert assessment, advice, and referrals as needed.
- Work as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary triage team.
- Occasionally redeploy to the Delivery Suite to support high-risk births or complex cases.
- Champion patient-centred care, inclusivity, and diversity awareness in a multicultural setting.
- Help ensure safe, effective care while adhering to national and trust guidelines.
- Contribute to clinical education and staff development.

- Annual births: ~ 6,000 women receive specialist care in our accredited maternity unit.
- Facilities:
- Consultant-led Obstetric Unit (including a fixed birth pool room, high-risk labour suites, 2 theatres, recovery beds, and a bereavement suite).
- Induction of Labour Suite (complementary therapies, such as relexology).
- 21-bed Postnatal Ward & 14-bed Antenatal/Transitional Care Ward.
- Serenity Midwife-Led Unit (award-winning birth centre)—supports 1,200 annual births with five birth rooms.
- Quality Accreditation: Rated "GOOD" at our last CQC inspection (July 2021) + UNICEF Baby-Friendly accreditation (Level 2).
