Midwifery Practitioner

An Exciting Opportunity for a Midwife

The Women & Children’s Directorate is seeking midwives to work as autonomous practitioners driving forward midwifery practice whilst providing holistic care to the families of Forth Valley.

About the Role

In NHS Forth Valley, we provide care throughout the pregnancy journey within midwifery teams as well as in core areas and at present are working well towards achieving the recommendations within the National Best Start Project.

Applicants should be highly motivated to work in all areas of midwifery in an integrated team model of care. New work patterns offer a choice of 7.5 hours, 10.5 hours, and 12-hour shifts. The post holders would be working in a modern, clean hospital set in a beautiful woodland area and also in community hubs where you can provide midwifery care close to the homes of women. Our alongside midwifery unit is well used and incorporates two birthing pools. All rooms within the labor ward benefit from a calm, relaxing environment where we provide portable CTG monitoring, aromatherapy, and a range of birthing equipment.

About Us

We are a friendly team who enjoy challenging ourselves both in and out of work and we benefit from having positive working relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team.

NHS Forth Valley provides care for approximately 3000 births annually and covers a large geographical area composed of beautiful rural and urban areas. We are ideally situated between Glasgow and Edinburgh with good transport links to both nearby.

The much-expanded Women & Children’s Directorate benefits from diversity and flexibility, providing services for women, children, and young people within the home, community, and acute hospital settings. In NHS Forth Valley, we passionately believe in joined-up, holistic care across the whole patient journey. Candidates should demonstrate commitment, drive, and resilience and share our passion and values; being keen to continuously develop the service we provide.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
