Tasks

The purpose of the role is to design, manage, coordinate, and deliver mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation systems throughout a project's lifecycle, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, budget, and programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • To develop and review MEICA designs and technical specifications.
  • Manage the procurement of equipment and subcontractors for the project.
  • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, and control systems integration.
  • Provide support for installation, testing, commissioning, and handover activities.
  • Ensure compliance is maintained in accordance with UK regulations, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Monitor project schedules, costs, risks, and quality performance.
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Prepare technical reports, design documentation, and handover records.
  • Provide technical support during construction and operational phases.

Typical Technical Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of pumps, motors, valves, pipework, MCCs (Motor Control Centres), VSDs (Variable Speed Drives).
  • A solid understanding of PLC and SCADA systems.
  • Experience in instrumentation and control systems.
  • A strong background in water and wastewater treatment processes (for utility-sector roles).
  • AutoCAD and other engineering design software experience.
  • Working knowledge of UK electrical and safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • CSCS Card.
  • Degree, HNC, or HND in Mechanical, Electrical, Control, Automation, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Previous water industry experience.
  • Project management and planning experience.
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
  • Stakeholder management and communication.
  • Health, safety, and quality awareness.
  • Leadership and team coordination.
