The Company
PEM Sheetmetal Ltd is an established precision sheet-metal fabrication company supplying the medical, scientific, rail and transport sectors. We operate from our factory on Springfield Road Industrial Estate, Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex, CM0 8TE.
The Role
We are looking for MIG welders to join our shop floor. The work is mostly mild steel (2–15mm) — fabrications and panel work for the rail industry. Typical duties include:
- MIG welding of mild steel fabrications and panels (2–15mm)
- Working to engineering drawings and fabrication tolerances
- Assembly of fabricated components, jigs and sub-assemblies
- Inspecting your own work to the quality standard required for rail-sector products

Skills & Experience
We are recruiting at both skilled and semi-skilled levels:
- Skilled: time-served or equivalent experience MIG welding mild steel across a range of thicknesses, producing strong, consistent welds from drawings with minimal supervision
- Semi-skilled: solid MIG welding fundamentals with some workshop experience, keen to develop — training and support provided
- Able to read engineering drawings (or willingness to learn at semi-skilled level)
- Good attention to detail — rail-sector work demands sound, reliable welds
Hours, Pay & Benefits
- Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 07:00–15:30 (30-minute unpaid lunch break, plus two 15-minute paid tea breaks)
- Overtime: Paid at 1.5× the basic rate on hours worked over 40 per week
- Pay: Hourly rate according to skill level and experience — all PEM staff are paid above the National Living Wage
- Holiday: 28 days per year including bank holidays
- PPE: Provided by PEM, except safety shoes (worker supplies own)
- Location: Factory environment — Springfield Road Industrial Estate, Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex, CM0 8TE
