About the Role

As the Miner for Joseph Gallagher Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and progress of tunnelling operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety & Compliance
    • Uphold the safety of all individuals on site (including yourself).
    • Fully understand and commit to every Risk Assessment (RAM) and Safe System of Work (SOS) briefing relevant to the tasks you’re performing.
    • Ensure you hold the correct qualifications and authorisations for the work undertaken.
    • Immediately report any:
      • Near-misses
      • Incidents
      • Accidents (**to the on-site **JGL Supervisor)

  • Site & Workplace Conduct

    • Maintain a neat, tidy, and organised work area at all times.
    • If unsafe conditions arise, immediately halt work and conduct general housekeeping until the area is secure.
    • Enforce Health & Safety (H&S) policies to cultivate a safe working environment.
    • Restrict mobile phone use to designated, safe areas only.
  • Personal Protection & Equipment

    • Ensure you and your team wear all-required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including:
      • Hard hat
      • Safety glasses
      • Safety boots and gloves
  • COSHH & Material Handling

    • Comply with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) for all relevant materials.
    • Store, utilise, and dispose of hazardous substances safely.
    • Never operate plant or equipment unless specifically authorised and trained.

  • Work Zone & Permissions

    • Strictly adhere to exclusion zones to avoid entering dangerous areas.
    • Store tools and plant in secure, safe locations.
    • Report any damaged, faulty, or worn plant/equipment to the lead miner.
  • Handling & Stacking Materials

    • Minimise manual handling where possible (prefer mechanical aids).
    • If manual lifting is unavoidable, follow approved guidelines to mitigate risk.
    • Only stack materials in designated areas.
  • Permits & Enforcement

    • Ensure all necessary permits and documentation are in place and checked before starting work.
    • Never attempt unrula st work—always confirm readiness through proper authorisation.
  • Daily End-of-Shift Practices

    • Inspect and clean all equipment/tools if not required for further shifts.
