Job Description
We seek a self-driven Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join our elite Direct Entry onto the Specialist Register (DESR) consultant team, joining our growing Minimally Invasive Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (MIS-CTS) unit. This role will transform the next phase of our unit through innovation, clinical excellence, and high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Collaborate closely with the team to develop and excel in our minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgery programme offering maximal safety and best outcomes for our patients.
- Work within an aspirational MIS-CTS unit, where delegation and collaborative training styles are valued.
- Contribute to trust-wide innovations, by championing research, teaching, and advocacy in heart valve disease.
- Drive efforts toward sustainable patient care, making conscious choices to reduce our carbon footprint and uphold the NHS Green Plan 2030/2040 targets.
- Project to a wide audience (clinical & public) with confidence, translating complex medical advancements into clear and engaging shared decision-making processes.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria/Experience:
- Subspecialty training/markers in Cardiothoracic Surgery (Advanced basketCase-mitral, aortic-valve, CABG) reflecting internationally benchmarked outcomes.
- Commitment to continuous professional development, educational activity, and mentorship.
- Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., Cardiologists, Anaesthetists, ARMMs) maintaining patient-centred care.
- Proficiency in systematic quality improvement and evidence-based practice.
