We are a crowdfunded company, building what we believe will be the "Best Damn Space Sim Ever". Backed by a passionate community, we’re constructing an ever-expanding Persistent Universe. We value exceptional, diverse talent and are excited to bring it to our UK studio in Manchester.
Cloud Imperium Games is searching for an enthusiastic, technically-minded Mid Level Mission Designer to join our Mission Design Team (MDT)—composed of designers, a producer, and embedded testers—where you’ll shape core aspects of gameplay, including:
- Creating the first implementations of new missions
- Maintaining and evolving existing missions
- Designing meaningful player events
About the Role
Founded in 2012, Cloud Imperium Games pushes boundaries in next-gen videogames—currently producing Star Citizen, a landmark multiplayer space simulation, and Squadron 42, a single-player cinematic voyage across the same expansive universe. Join us as we break industry norms and redefine gaming history.
Key Responsibilities
- Work under a Lead Mission Designer/Developer to refine and finalise high-level story and gameplay roadmaps.
- Design, document, and implement missions, events, and systems—collaborating closely with senior designers while applying your creativity and technical prowess.
- Master in-house tools, including StarScript, our visual scripting engine, to code mission logic, events, and gameplay systems efficiently.
- Coordinate with other teams to identify and resolve dependencies, ensuring timely delivery of features without sacrificing quality.
- Embrace an iterative mindset, actively integrating feedback and growing your craft within a dynamic workflow.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
