Purpose Of Role
To work in partnership with the Church Minister to provide support and leadership in the areas of pastoral care and Church growth opportunities. To actively encourage and develop a culture of discipleship, along with a passion and confidence to share the Gospel.
Faith
To fulfil the requirements of the role it is a requirement that the successful applicant is and remains a practicing Christian.

Job Description
Main responsibilities:
General
- To come alongside people as a person of prayer, open to God’s guiding in partnership with others, for the flourishing and growth of the Christian faith within existing and new communities.
- Develop new ministries with both the groups who use the church and the wider community outside the church, whilst supporting the Minister across a wide range of activities.
- Use IT and social media platforms appropriately, working collaboratively with colleagues.
Surbiton Hill Methodist Church
- Nurture and develop the spiritual life of the people at Surbiton Hill Methodist Church.
- Offer a Christian ministry of accompaniment and hope, offering opportunities for people both within and outside the current community to explore faith or go deeper in their faith journey in creative, practical and unexpected ways.
- Be a welcoming presence at Sunday worship and build healthy relationships with new people.
- Build on connections made with parents, families, the local community and users of the building.
- Develop and deliver appropriate support and opportunities for friendship, community, worship, faith exploration and discipleship.
- Discover new opportunities for partnership with the local community.
- Help to develop God’s vision for Surbiton Hill Methodist Church and associated Tennis Club.
- Help to lead and establish future missional activities that may arise from connections made, for example an ALPHA Course, Bible Fellowships, Bereavement Courses, Ecumenical Outreach and Debt Management.
- To work ecumenically where opportunities arise.

Other Requirements
- Prepare and deliver reports, when asked to do so, to relevant Church and Circuit meetings.
- Participate in their own Christian study and reflection to support effective mission and ministry.
- Maintain a good understanding of the culture of the Church and be ready to further develop it.
- As requested by your Line Manager, undertake all other reasonable duties that support the evolving mission of the Church.

Summary Of Terms And Conditions
Full-time/ Fixed Term Contract
- The initial contract is for a period of 3 years.
- 37.5 Hours a week.
- A flexible working pattern, to include evening and weekend working, with at least two days free from responsibilities each week.
- Salary £ 40,000 pa
- Working in the community both within and around Surbiton Hill Methodist Church.
- Leave is 30 days inclusive of public holidays (FTE).
- There is a contributory 6% pension scheme to which eligible staff will be auto enrolled and which will be matched by the Church. Employees who do not meet the auto enrolment criteria are eligible to join the Scheme, subject to certain provisions.
- Offers of employment are conditional on the satisfactory completion of a 6-month period of probationary period. The Church reserves the right to extend this up to a maximum of 12 months.
- Offers of employment are conditional on a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS).
- Offers of employment are conditional on the successful applicant demonstrating the right to live and work within the United Kingdom as required by the Immigration Asylum and Nationality Act 2006.
- There will on occasion be the need for training to be completed that is relevant to the role and to the requirements of the Methodist Church.
