Lead MLRO & Compliance Officer (UK)

Location: UK (Remote)

Our client, an international financial services and digital assets business, is seeking an experienced MLRO & Compliance Officer to lead the development of its UK compliance framework as it continues to expand its regulated operations.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone with strong FCA regulatory expertise who enjoys building compliance functions, engaging with regulators, and partnering with the business to support sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead UK compliance and financial crime initiatives, including regulatory authorisation activities.
  • Develop and maintain AML, sanctions, and broader compliance frameworks.
  • Design policies, governance, monitoring, and risk management processes aligned with FCA expectations.
  • Advise senior stakeholders on UK regulatory requirements and emerging compliance risks.
  • Work closely with Legal, Risk, Product, and Operations teams to embed compliance across the business.
  • Act as the proposed MLRO and Compliance Officer for the UK entity, subject to regulatory approval.

Requirements

  • 15+ years' compliance and financial crime experience within FCA-regulated financial services.
  • Previous experience holding SMF16, SMF17, or an equivalent senior compliance role.
  • Strong experience working directly with UK regulators and leading regulatory authorisation or licensing projects.
  • Proven digital assets experience, with exposure to crypto, Web3, DeFi, or related markets.
  • Excellent understanding of UK AML, sanctions, and regulatory governance requirements.
  • Commercial, hands-on approach with the ability to build compliance functions from the ground up.
  • Degree educated; legal qualifications are advantageous.
  • Experience leveraging AI or technology to enhance compliance processes is a plus.
