About the Role
Shape the Future of National Security – One Weld at a Time
At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world together. If you join us, you can play your part as an MMA Welder at historic Devonport Royal Dockyard – home of the biggest naval base in Western Europe and a vital support for the Royal Navy for over 700 years.
As an MMA (Manual Metal Arc) Welder, you’ll have a role that’s genuinely out of the ordinary. These opportunities place you at the centre of major shipbuilding, submarine, and infrastructure projects. You’ll use your expertise to support the fabrication, repair, and structural integrity of naval vessels and heavy engineering assets.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll do:
- Apply Manual Metal Arc (MMA) welding to a range of heavy-duty marine and structural components
- Work on submarines, surface ships, dockside infrastructure, and controlled factory environments
- Operate welding and some fabrication equipment to consistently high standards
- Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, procedures, and technical specifications from a welding perspective
- Work closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to meet tight safety and performance targets
Reasons to use Rodeo
I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
