Location: Sheffield, UK
Work mode: Hybrid – 3 days weekly from office

Role Overview
Top bank is seeking talented Mobile Engineers specializing in Android development to deliver secure, scalable and accessible mobile banking solutions. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development and enhancement of enterprise mobile applications while ensuring exceptional user experience, performance and accessibility compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain native Android applications using Kotlin.
- Implement new features and enhance existing mobile application functionality.
- Debug, troubleshoot and resolve production and development issues.
- Collaborate with Product, UX/UI, Architecture and Engineering teams.
- Ensure applications meet security, performance and accessibility standards.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews and technical discussions.
- Contribute to reusable frameworks, best practices and engineering standards.

Required Technical Skills
- Strong experience with Android development using Kotlin.
- Solid understanding of Android SDK, Jetpack components and modern architecture patterns (MVVM/MVI).
- Experience integrating REST APIs and backend services.
- Knowledge of unit testing, UI testing and automation frameworks.
- Proficiency with Git, CI/CD pipelines and modern development practices.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
Accessibility & UX Requirements
- Strong understanding of mobile accessibility principles.
- Experience implementing WCAG guidelines and Android accessibility features.
- Knowledge of screen readers, accessibility testing tools and inclusive design practices.
- Ability to identify and remediate accessibility issues within existing applications.

Senior-Level Expectations
- Lead technical design discussions and mentor engineers.
- Participate in cross-platform whiteboard system design exercises.
- Drive architecture decisions focused on scalability, resilience and maintainability.
- Balance accessibility, performance and business requirements within solution designs.
Assessment Alignment
- Real-world coding assessment involving debugging and enhancement of an existing codebase.
- Hands-on coding expected in Kotlin or relevant mobile development language.
- Mid-level candidates assessed on Android development and accessibility scenario-based questions.
- Senior candidates evaluated through advanced system design discussions, including cross-platform accessibility considerations.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in Banking, Financial Services or regulated industries.
- Exposure to mobile security frameworks and secure coding practices.
- Knowledge of cloud-native and DevOps engineering practices.
