Mobile Catering Assistant
Job Title: Mobile Catering Assistant
Reports To: Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor of base SMK
Responsible To: Catering Manager (via appropriate Area Catering Manager)
Job Purpose
To actively participate in the daily operation of the Catering Unit under the direction of the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor, ensuring:
- An efficient and hygienic service
- High levels of customer satisfaction
- Promotion of sales within the unit
Main Duties And Responsibilities
- Food & Beverage Preparation
- Basic preparation of food and beverages, including vegetables/snacks
- Simple cooking, including reconstitution of prepared food
- Food Service Operations
- Organising and controlling food service points
- Transferring and serving meals/snacks, including transported meals
- Assisting in promoting meals to pupils, parents and principal
- Communication & Coordination
- Maintaining regular contact with the central kitchen
- Ensuring compliance with service delivery requirements
- Dining Area Management
- Setting up dining rooms, tables, chairs, benches and serving points
- Laying out cutlery, water jugs, and other essentials
- Assisting with administrative duties
- Cleaning & Maintenance
- Completing general kitchen and dining room tasks (washing up, clearing equipment)
- Cleaning kitchen/servery, dining room, and associated equipment (floors, walls)
- Recording temperatures as required
- Securing premises as necessary
- Delegated duties related to service provision
- Compliance & Ethical Standards
- Adherence to:
- Parliamentary acts, statutory instruments, and other legal requirements
- Codes of practice
- School’s values/ethos
- Performing tasks up to the posted grade level, provided within competence
- Adherence to:
- School-Specific Notes
- If the dining area serves dual purposes (food consumption + education), non-catering staff are responsible for cleaning.

Person Specification

Shortlisting (Application Form)
- Demonstrated willingness to undertake job-related training
- Availability of a suitable vehicle (well-maintained, insured) for Education Authority tasks OR documented assurance of an alternative suitable transport solution

Experience/Qualifications (Assessed in shortlisting)
- Prior experience in customer service or catering roles
Disclosure of Criminal Background
Under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007, appointments involving direct work with children/young people require an Enhanced Disclosure Certificate (current cost: £33). You must cover the cost and obtain approval before employment.
