- Hours: 12.5 hours per week (term-time only, Monday–Friday)
- Locations: Wakefield and surrounding areas (including mobile/on-call flexibility)
The Role – Support Delicious + Nutritious Meal Service Daily
Join a team preparing healthy, nutritious meals across multiple sites. Tasks will likely include:
- Handing preparation and assembly of food portions
- Food safety and hygiene compliance (strict standards apply)
- Assisting with kitchen duties (e.g. stock rotation, cleaning)
- Mobile/flexi support to cover other council sites as needed

Responsibilities
- Prepare and store meals in a high-volume, adhering to hygiene and volume production guidelines.
- Work autonomously on some days or embedded into teams during peak periods.
- Ensure all food preparation complies with legal food safety frameworks (Catering Standards).
- Demonstrate adaptability for mobile shifts when units need their support elsewhere.
Key attributes:
- A passion for food and teamwork
- Willingness to work flexibly (e.g., covering gaps at other sites)
- Comfortable performing physical tasks (e.g., lifting, standing for long periods)
- Strong attention to detail to reduce food waste and adhere to food safety
Requirements
Essential Criteria
- Ability to stand and work for significant periods
- No prior experience necessary—training provided
- Commitment to flexible scheduling (term-time hours Monday–Friday)
- Willingness to build and manage team relationships with colleagues
Preferred Criteria
- Previous experience in kitchen, hospitality, or food production (advantageous but not required)
- Any allergens training certification (bonus)
- Ability to access locations across the Wakefield district using general transport

Minimum Pay & Working Hours
- Wage: £12.85 an hour (Gross, Empire-Lit Policy applies)
- Daily Hours: Divisible across 12.5 hours/week (e.g., 2-3 days, avg 4h/day in term commitments)
- Term Time Only: Hours aligned to Kirklees Council’s school-year calendar—no unsocial out-of-hours obligations.
