Qualification & Experience Requirements
Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking or
- City & Guilds 706-1 & 706-2 or equivalent or higher or
- Two years demonstrable experience in food prep/cooking within a catering establishment
Experience:
- Evidence of effective supervision/management of a catering team
- Demonstrable experience in stock control, budget management, and financial controls
Knowledge Requirements
- Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
- Provision of special diets (including allergens and ethnic needs)
Additional Mandatory Factors
- Willingness to undertake job-related training Transport Requirement: Applicants must provide proof of access to a suitable maintained and insured vehicle (for Education Authority business) or confirm alternative transport arrangements satisfy post mobility needs.

- IT skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams
- Training Delivery: Experience developing, delivering training

JOB TITLE: Catering Manager
Reports to: Regional Operations Manager
Responsible for: Catering Team Members
JOB PURPOSE
Oversee daily kitchen operations through leadership, innovation, and teamwork, ensuring high-quality catering service for students, staff, and stakeholders.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Delivery
- Execute menu planning, portion control, food safety compliance (HACCP, COSHH), and special dietary management (IDDSI). Serve theme days/functions as required.
- Organise and supervise food preparation, delivery/transportation to dining centres.
- Champion adherence to EA’s food safety and allergens policy, monitoring temperatures and documenting records [Natasha’s Law compliance].

Key Actions:
- Coordinate monthly stock-takes, manage deliveries
- Ensure kitchen equipment maintains safety standards; report defects
- Pest control/food safety incidents: Report occurrences (e.g., fire, waste, pests)
- Liaise with schools, parents, and administration to enhance service marketing and resolve complaints
- Develop customer engagement strategies (e.g., parent pala boxes, community events)
- Admin: Manage risk assessments (including fire risk) and keep updated Allergen Matrix
People Management
- Lead staff by delegating roles, managing work schedules, ensuring team compliance with EA policies (e.g., disciplinary, performance appraisals).
- Administer induction, training (annual refreshers), and performance reviews
- Collaborate with recruitment teams and HR for disciplinary/grievance process support.
Financial
- Oversee financial controls: Monthly budgeting reviews, cost recordings
- Handle clerical (ordering, inventory, accident reporting) and cash flow processes per EA guidelines
General Responsibilities
- Adhere to legislation (e.g., Food Safety Act), legal codes of practice, and duty of care.
- Maintain personal hygiene, EA uniforms, and positive customer interaction.
