You will be assessed based on the following timeline:

Section 1 – Essential Criteria
Qualifications and Experience
-
Hold either:
- An NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking
- City & Guilds 706-1 & 706-2 qualification
- **Equivalent or higher relevant qualification or
-
Have two years’ demonstrable experience in food preparation/cooking in a catering establishment.

Supervision and Management evidence of effective supervision or management of a catering team.

Financial Management experience in stock control, budget management, and financial controls.

Safety and Compliance knowledge of HACCP and allergens/inclusive diet provision.
Additional Essential Criteria (Shortlisting/Interview)
- A willingness to undergo job-related training.
- Must provide proof of access to an appropriately maintained and insured vehicle for Education Authority duties OR demonstrate a viable alternative transport solution.

Section 2 – Skills and Values Assessment (Interview)
Leadership & People Management
- Ability to motivate, manage, and develop a catering team.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, including communication with teams, colleagues, parents, and management.
Organisation & Accountability
- Strong planning, organisational, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in sales initiatives and customer engagement for service improvement.

- Commitment to EA’s ethos (values prioritisation).
Section 3 – Desirable Criteria
Outline to assist filtering high-value candidates where needed in applications:
- IT Proficiency: MS Outlook, Excel, Word & Teams.
- Training Delivery: Experience in training staff or stakeholders.
These may be applied* meritocratically during shortlisting.*
Additional Notes
DBS Check (Enhanced) Required
Northern Ireland regulations apply mandatory DBS verification for roles “regulated activity” with children.

General Responsibilities
Service Delivery
- Oversee kitchen operations, including menu design, portion control, food safety, and theatre-catering logistics.
- Comply with EA food safety policies, including allergen updates and temperature tracking.
- Manage suppliers, deliveries, stock control, and waste minimisation.
People Management
- Oversee team performance reviews, apprenticeships, and compliance training.
- Address complaints, grievances/problems and implement directional staff policies.
Financial Responsibilities
- Budget monitoring and cost control to adhere to targets.
- Ensure proper cash inventory and submit relevant financial records to EA procedures.
General Compliance
Obey legal frameworks (Acts, COSHH, Natasha’s Law, NHS hygiene standards) and lead by Health & Safety exemplar.
Oversight
The post outlines expectations for quality, accountability, and adaptability while acknowledging updates in needs/legislation.
