About The Role
In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of driving automation capabilities and innovative solutions across our Mobile Innovation Labs, with a strong focus on Lab support for Radio access Network, remote access, and physical infrastructure. Your work will enable faster, smarter, and more reliable testing environments that underpin the evolution of our mobile network technologies.
You’ll collaborate within a dynamic team to design and deliver automated open-source scripts, tools, and test solutions that address complex technical and business challenges. By applying best practices, leveraging cutting-edge technologies, and using your problem-solving skills, you’ll help shape the future of network automation.
This role isn’t just about technical expertise—it’s about engagement, influence and on the job learning. You’ll work closely with technology delivery teams, business partners, and stakeholders to ensure solutions are robust, secure, and aligned with strategic goals. Your ability to communicate effectively and foster collaboration will be key to delivering impactful outcomes.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Support day-to-day testing activities across BT Mobile Innovation Labs.
- Ensure reliable mobile handset connectivity to the EE/BT Mobile Network and associated test environments.
- Maintain lab readiness by configuring devices, SIMs, tools, and connectivity equipment.
- Monitor and troubleshoot issues across RAN, devices, logging tools, network access, and lab platforms.
- Follow standard setup procedures for devices and tools used across the labs.
- Perform root-cause analysis on connectivity issues and escalate to engineering teams where required.
- Build tools and databases to support configuration changes, track assets and conduct health checks.
- Create dashboards and reporting solutions to track lab usage, device behaviour, network performance, and issue trends.
- Document processes, maintain configuration records, and support continual improvement of lab systems.
- Act as the primary contact for remote engineers accessing Bristol labs.
- Provide technical support for configuration, device setup, log capture and analysis, and environment access.
- Manage incident intake, triage, resolution tracking, and communication updates.
- Build strong working relationships with internal customers and engineering partners.

Essential Skills / Experience
- Awareness of mobile network concepts such as cell sites, radio access, signal strength, and network registration.
- Comfortable configuring and supporting test handsets.
- Basic diagnostic skills across Wi-Fi, mobile data, VoLTE, VoWiFi, USB connectivity, drivers, and common Android/iOS device behaviours.
- Familiarity with mobile log capture tools and network analysis concepts (e.g. signal metrics, call flows), or a willingness to learn. Understanding of how logs support issue diagnosis, health checks, and reporting.
- Basic Excel skills, with exposure to Power BI or similar data visualisation tools. Willingness to learn Power Automate, SharePoint Lists, Power Apps, and basic SQL/query concepts.
- Understanding of VPN fundamentals and basic Windows/macOS troubleshooting.
- Interest in scripting and automation, with exposure to PowerShell or similar tools.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Understanding of SIM profiles, APNs, and device provisioning.
- Comfortable working with tablets, routers, SIMs/eSIMs, and other test equipment.
- Basic ADB diagnostic experience.
- Introductory PowerShell knowledge, or a strong willingness to learn scripting and automation.
- Ability or interest in automating simple tasks such as health checks, file processing, and data extraction.
- Awareness of version control tools such as Git.
