Mobile Engineer - Power

Field Service Engineer – Generators and Compressors

Location: Base in Bristol, covering Bristol/Taunton/Gloucester

Hours: Monday to Friday: 08:00–17:00 40 hours per week + overtime

On-call rota: 1-in-4


About the Role

Are you a skilled Field Service Engineer with a strong background in diesel engines, fault diagnosis and repairs? Join Speedy, the UK’s leading hire provider, and help keep customers powered up.

Fully field-based role covering multiple sites in a defined patch. Ideal for those who can commute to Bristol and are ready for a competitive and rewarding career.


Key Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain and repair generators (20–1,400 kVA) and compressors at customer sites.
  • Diagnose faults, replace parts, and perform quick and effective repairs.
  • Work on equipment fitted with telematics – ComAp/DSE (Deep Sea Electronics) panels for sync functionality.
  • Attend breakdowns, carry out planned maintenance, and aim for first-time fixes.
  • Professional customer liaison and team coordination.
  • Strict adherence to Health & Safety policies.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of diesel engines and practical experience in fault diagnosis and repairs.
  • Experience in servicing/repairing generators, compressors, or similar plant/equipment.
  • Good IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Professional written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to cover overtime/on-call (1-in-4 rota).
  • Alignment with Speedy’s ESG strategy (Environmental, Social, Governance).

Additional Preferred:

  • Candidates with backgrounds in HV engineering, HGV mechanics, forklift equipment, or similar industries.

Compensation and Overtime

  • Overtime: Paid at 1.5x hourly rate (door-to-door).
  • On-call allowances:
    • 1-in-4 rota.
    • COST (Compensation for On-Call Standby Time) – Mon–Fri and Sat–Sun.
