Mobile Maintenance Technician – Biffa (Aldridge Base)
Locations Covered
You will be based at our Aldridge site and travel to the following areas:
Midlands (West)
- Birmingham
- Tipton
- Coventry
Midlands (East)
- Leicester
- Nottingham
- Melton Mowbray
- Lincoln (travel via M42 / A42)
North West / Stoke
- Stoke-on-Trent
- Manchester (Irlam)
- St Helens (travel via M6 North)
About the Role
Are you passionate about reducing operational downtime and keeping machinery running at peak performance? Biffa is seeking Mobile Maintenance Technicians to support our operations across key areas.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Planned maintenance activities, including inspections, condition monitoring, and routine servicing.
- Providing technical feedback to refine job plans and task listings in the CMMS system.
- Ensuring fault diagnosis and resolution to minimise equipment failures.
- Reporting accidents and incidents via our safety management system.
Salary: £50,000 per annum Shift Pattern: 11-hour shifts, four days per week
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out mechanical repairs and support the electrical team as needed.
- Use the CMMS system to completion of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPMs) and reactive work orders, ensuring detailed, accurate feedback to build equipment history.
- Collaborate with operations to diagnose and resolve faults quickly, returning plant to full operating order.
- Identify potential failures and improvement opportunities to prevent repetitive issues.
- Comply with health, safety, and environmental standards—reporting all incidents as required.
- Undergo necessary training, including:
- MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) operations
- FLT (Forklift Trucks)
- Telehandler operation
- Confined Space Entry

Requirements
Essential
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in fault diagnosis and rectification on complex plant and machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and diagrams.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Rotating equipment
- Shaft alignment
- Conveying systems
- Service equipment
- Competency in using standard maintenance tools and equipment.
- Committment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
Desirable
- HNC in Mechanical or Plant Engineering.
- Experience with welding and/or basic electrical/instrumentation maintenance.
- "Completer finisher" mindset – proactive approach with strong attention to detail.
