Mobile Mechanic (HGV Field Service Engineer)

We are thrilled to announce a major contract win with Southern Water! We are recruiting for a Mobile Fitter Engineer covering the entire Southern Water area. This is an excellent opportunity to commence a new career with Lanes Group.

Position Overview

Title: Mobile Mechanic (HGV Field Service Engineer) Location: Based at Millbrook depot (Southampton), covering the Southern Water area, which includes Sussex, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight. Job Type: Permanent, full-time Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours Salary: £55,000 per annum (including basic pay, overtime, on-call allowance, and bonuses) Benefits:

About the Role

As an essential member of our transport team, you will oversee the maintenance of our fleet of vehicles (vans to HGVs) and specialised equipment. You’ll need to be organized, meticulous, and deeply passionate about automotive solutions, adept at identifying and resolving issues proactively.

Key responsibilities include:

Hydraulic & High-Pressure Jetting Systems

  • Tech mastery: Provide in-depth knowledge of hydraulic systems, including pumps, hoses, and control mechanisms.
  • Jetting specialist: Maintain and troubleshoot high-pressure jetting systems integral to drain and sewer cleaning.
  • Performance validation: Conduct regular inspections and performance testing to ensure optimal functionality.

Vehicle Maintenance

  • Routine surveillance: Perform routine inspections and maintenance of our entire fleet, particularly focusing on hydraulic components.
  • Fault diagnosis: Proactively diagnose and resolve hydraulic/high-pressure-related faults for reliable operations.
  • Preventive maintenance: Execute preventive maintenance tasks to enhance reliability.

Repair & Troubleshooting

  • Emergency response: Address breakdowns and repairs of hydraulic and high-pressure equipment promptly and efficiently, with on-site servicing.
  • Diagnostic tool utilisation: Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and rectify technical issues.
  • Collaborative analysis: Contribute to root-cause analysis of recurring problems and propose preventive measures for the team.

Legislation & Compliance

  • Stay updated with industry legislation and standards related to hydraulic systems and high-pressure applications.
  • Ensure all activities align with health and safety, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Enforce and promote adherence to Lanes Group policies and compliance boundaries through safe working practices.

About You

We welcome applicants who are:

  • Hardworking, disciplined, and highly organised
  • Health and safety compliant
  • Proactive troubleshooters with a passion for technical solutions -']=• Certified professionals with a Class B driving licence and adherence to industry-recognised standards (City & Guilds or equivalent)

Essential:

  • Class C+E/HGV Class 2 driving licence
  • HGV experience in commercial vehicle servicing

Desirable:

  • IOSH/NEBOSH qualifications
  • Industry experience within the water sector
  • Prior exposure to hydraulics
