The Role
As a Hydraulic Excavator / Mobile Plant Operator, you will be responsible for operating hydraulic excavators to extract sand and gravel and load material into dumper trucks for transport to the processing plant. You'll also support wider quarry operations through the safe operation of additional mobile plant equipment and routine maintenance activities.
Safety, attention to detail, and operational excellence are at the heart of this role.
What You'll Be Doing
- Operating hydraulic excavators to extract sand and gravel efficiently and safely.
- Loading dumper trucks for transportation to the central processing plant.
- Operating additional mobile plant equipment where appropriately trained and certified.
- Carrying out daily inspections and routine maintenance on mobile plant machinery in line with manufacturer and Heidelberg Materials requirements.
- Supporting processing plant operations and undertaking additional site duties as directed by Site Management.
- Working in accordance with company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Maintaining compliance with Quarry Regulations 1999 and all site safety requirements.
- Contributing to a positive team culture focused on safety, productivity, and continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For
Essential
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English.
- EPIC certification to operate mobile plant equipment.
- NVQ Level 2 in Mobile Plant Operations (or working towards completion following EPIC certification).
- Proven ability to operate heavy plant machinery safely and effectively.
- Strong understanding of health and safety requirements within a quarrying or industrial environment.
- A proactive approach to maintenance, housekeeping, and equipment care.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Desirable
- Previous experience within quarrying, aggregates, mining, construction, or heavy industrial operations.
- Experience operating multiple types of mobile plant equipment.
- Knowledge of quarry processing operations.
