Cover Security Officer (Glasgow & Surrounding Areas)

LOCATION: MJ Mapp, 110 Queen Street, Glasgow

SHIFT PATTERN: As required, minimum 0 hours per week Shift work, evenings, weekends and public holidays

PAY RATE: £14.25 per hour


Job Summary

The Cover Security Officer ensures the safety and security of staff, visitors, and assets across various sites in Glasgow and neighbouring areas. Core responsibilities include:

  • Patrolling premises to minimise risks and deter criminal activity
  • Monitoring CCTV, alarms, and surveillance equipment
  • Responding to incidents, including first aid emergencies, security breaches, fire alarms, and thefts
  • Controlling and monitoring access to restricted areas
  • Assisting visitors, staff, and handling lost property inquiries

Key Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Perform foot patrols (sites, car parks, and high-risk areas)

  • Monitor surveillance systems and escalate any suspicious activity

  • Respond quickly to incidents—emergencies, unauthorised access, security breaches

  • Maintain access control, ensuring only authorised personnel enter restricted zones

  • Offer customer service assistance (guest inquiries, locator services, reports)

  • Log incidents, patrols, and security events with accurate daily reports

  • Collaborate with law enforcement, emergency services, and property management

  • Comply with company policies, health & safety, and legal regulations

  • Attend regular training on security protocols, first aid, and emergency procedures

Operational Safety

  • Stand/walk for extended periods under shift conditions (including weekends/holidays)
  • Prompt response in emergencies—approachable yet professional demeanour

Requirements

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Valid SIA (Security Industry Authority) licence (or licensed CCTV qualification preferred)
  • Previous security experience, preferably in retail, shopping centres, or high-risk environments
  • Strong observational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure, exercising professionalism during incidents
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) for customer interaction and reporting
  • Basic knowledge of first aid and fire safety protocols

Desirable Traits/Experience

  • Experience with CCTV monitoring operations
  • Completed conflict resolution or de-escalation training
  • Familiarity with local area security challenges or crime hotspots

Working Conditions

  • Flexible shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and public holidays
  • Physical demands—mobility for prolonged standing, walking, and responding on-the-spot
