Mobile Service Engineer - Basingstoke
Technical Field Support—the Role
Reports to: Field Operations Manager
About the Role
Performs a variety of routine servicing, inspections, and repairs on Distribution Tractors, Ro-Ro Tractors, other sea port equipment, Aircraft Ground Support Equipment (GSE), and other manufacturer’s products at customer premises. Duties include:
- Conducting visual or operational checks to identify worn, dirty, or maladjusted parts.
- Using technical manuals and diagnostic tools to locate and rectify defects in inoperable machine parts.
- Comprehensive accident damage inspections with detailed reporting for efficient repairs.
- Operating with minimal supervision, adhering to company Health & Safety policies at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent Terberg DTS Service Department professionally in field operations, demonstrating high standards of appearance, conduct, and technical skill.
- Execute tasks and assignments (oral or electronic instructions) from the Service Department with efficiency and precision.
- Determine repair techniques, select appropriate tools/materials, and apply correct safety measures (e.g., PPE).
- Obtain customer confirmation of work completion and signatures/purchase orders where applicable.
- Manage administrative procedures and inventory control for parts stock, ensuring accurate accountability.
- Align repairs/maintenance with manufacturer’s specifications and company Safe System of Work procedures.
- Commit to Health & Safety compliance, understanding company policy and maintaining operational standards.
- Participate in company training courses/seminars as required.
- Maintain company assets (vehicles, equipment) in a clean, safe, and presentable condition.
- Secure tools/materials on-site. Follow mobile phone use policies set by legislation.
- Collaborate cross-departmentally, including explorative projects.
- Be prepared for additional hours, including unplanned call-offs and unsocial hours at customer locations.

Key Knowledge Requirements

- Uphold preventative maintenance standards based on manufacturer/recommended procedures.
- Proficiency in Terberg Tug systems/specifications.
- Competency in latest diagnostic software/tools.
Qualifications & Experience Required
- City & Guilds Level 3 – Vehicle Mechanical & Electronic Systems (Mechanical Repair) or equivalent validated qualification.
- 2+ years’ experience in auto electrical fault diagnosis and electronic tests, including work with specialist/heavy goods vehicles.
- Valid UK driver’s licence.
