Static Technical Operative (Multiskilled) – HMCTS Contract
Location: Croydon Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time (40 hours per week) Package: Competitive salary, full benefits package
About the Role
Equans, a leader in sustainable facilities management and energy/digital services, is hiring a Static Technical Operative (Multiskilled) to deliver low-voltage electrical maintenance, installation, and general facilities management (FM) support for the HMCTS (HM Courts & Tribunals Service).
This multiskilled technician role requires expertise in electrical systems, planned preventive maintenance (PPM), and reactive fault-fixing, alongside a commitment to upholding high health and safety standards and working flexibly across sites. You’ll also support subcontractors, maintain asset records (e.g., CAFM/Maximo), and ensure service compliance with KPIs and SLAs.
You must be fully self-reliant, proactively problem-solving, and capable of forming strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and subcontractors. Much of the role will involve representing Equans professionally while maintaining a spotless appearance and respecting strict workspace hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical & Maintenance Duties
- Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM):
- Conduct scheduled inspections and maintenance on low-voltage electrical systems, including controls, lighting, and power circuits
- Prepare parts lists and time estimates for remedial work
- Reactive Maintenance:
- Respond to electrical faults and FM issues (e.g., AV, lighting, power) with speed and accuracy
- Follow Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all tasks to ensure compliance with Regulation 18th Edition wiring standards and valid certifications
- Equipment & Documentation:
- Ensure sufficient consumables are on-site to complete work
- Update CAFM system (Maximo) with accurate records for both PPM activities and reactive tickets
- Plant Room Management:
- Maintain assigned plant rooms in a clean, organised state, adhering to Equans’ EPA inspection standards
- HSE & Compliance:
- Wear uniform and PPE at all times
- Carry out emergency support duties, including tap flushing (L8), Water Hygiene checks, and lamp maintenance
- Report accidents, near-misses, and faults immediately
- Complete health & safety checks (e.g., test equipment calibration, PPE condition)

Supervision & Subcontracting
- Oversee subcontractors to monitor compliance with Equans’ standards and contractual SLAs
- Provide technical guidance to ensure work aligns with set quality and safety standards
Customer & Team Support
- Respond promptly to verbally or written work requests (e.g., Helpdesk PPM queries)
- Support out-of-hours call-outs on a rostered basis
- Build client rapport to enhance management of PM/leasing contracts
- Adapt to shifts/holiday cover when required
Delivering Consistent Service
- Be fair, transparent, and inclusive when managing workloads across multiple sites
- Identify efficiency improvements and share insights with the account management team
Key Requirements
Technical Skills
- Must-Have:
- City & Guilds (NVQ Level 3) Electrical qualification or equivalent
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations pass (current)
- First Aid at Work certificate (3-day)
- Proven electrical fault-finding skills (power, lighting, lighting protection, ladders, etc.)
- Strong grounding in health & safety, including permit-to-work systems (preferably **legal indemnity)
- Competency installing light fixtures and ceiling mounts, including static test records
- Temporary electricity supply installations (e.g., 32A outlets)
- Highly Desirable:
- City & Guilds 2391 (Installation & Testing / Inspections) or 2394 (CEinec)
- One year minimum low-voltage installation experience in a multi-supplier environment
- IPAF certification (3a & 3b) for static hi-lift machines
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) fault-finding
- Knowledge of Legionella dye testing and water management
- Smoking cessation training/health background (desirable for internal mill environment)

- Problem-solving and multitasking: Juggling planned and reactive maintenance with flexibility
- Teamwork & leadership: Comfortable supervising subcontractors and building relational trust with clients
- Attention to detail: Trustworthy record-keeping for compliance, audits, and cleanliness standards
- Communication: Professional interactions with subcontractors, on-site staff, and management
- Flexibility: Willingness to work lone, on-call, or during out-of-hours emergencies
- Sensitivity: Respecting different stakeholders (e.g., fisheries, internal site personnel)
