Mobile Vehicle Mechanic (Covering West and Central Scotland locations)
Vehicle Mechanic – Mobile (Paisley Depot)
Jarvie Plant, a family-owned business, is seeking a skilled Vehicle Mechanic to join our mobile team across Central and West Scotland. You’ll maintain and repair our fleet of hire vehicles, ensuring they are always safe, reliable, and customer-ready.
About the Role
Our Mobile Vehicle Mechanic is crucial to maintaining high standards across customer sites. You’ll diagnose and resolve vehicle issues both on-site and on the road, minimising downtime and keeping our fleet operational for UK-wide hire.
Based: Paisley Depot (PA3 2RP) Work Type: Mix of mobile assignments (on-site and roadside) with workshop duties during periods of lower demand.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of road and hire vehicles, including:
- Routine servicing (oil changes, filters, fluid top-ups)
- Engine management & electrical system repairs
- Braking systems & general mechanical faults
- Ensure vehicles meet legal safety standards and pass inspections
- Test repaired parts for optimal functionality
- Comply with all health, safety, and legal regulations
- Identify potential wear issues during inspections
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Rentals Manager, Workshop Manager) to schedule Repairs
- Deliver consistent, professional customer service on-site

Requirements
- Qualification: NVQ Level 2 in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent)
- Experience: Proven track record in multi-fleet diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs
- ** Skills:**
- Rapid problem-solving under time constraints
- Exceptional attention to detail (safeguarding vehicles/customer welfare)
- Clarity in communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Deadline-driven with a goal-motivated mindset
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Passion for delivering outstanding service
Note: Basic hand tools will be provided by the applicant, but Jarvie Plant will supply all specialist tools, PPE, and branded workwear.
