The Role

As a Model Behavior Architect on the Safety team, you will define and measure how large language models behave across reasoning, audio, alignment, tools, and other cutting-edge areas. This role exists to ensure our models meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and real-world utility. You will work closely with the Science team to establish what "good" looks like, translating research insights into actionable improvements. Your contributions will shape the behavior of Mistral’s models, enabling them to tackle complex tasks with precision and adaptability.

What You Will Do

  • Interact with models to pinpoint areas where behaviour can be refined and optimised.
  • Gather feedback from internal and external sources to identify and prioritise improvement opportunities.
  • Design and implement evaluations, data guidelines, and synthetic testing environments.
  • Address edge cases through rigorous testing to enhance model reliability and accuracy.
  • Develop robust evaluation pipelines to assess the capabilities of model candidates.
  • Collaborate with AI Scientists to align model behavior with research goals and practical needs.

What We're Looking For

  • Deep understanding of linguistics, language, and translation, or expertise in engineering and code behaviour, or experience with LLM agents, including reasoning and tool use.
  • Prior knowledge in training and optimising model behavior for real-world applications.
  • Expertise in building robust, scalable evaluation frameworks for AI systems.
  • Ability to thrive in dynamic, technically complex environments and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Track record of solving open-ended challenges with creative, practical approaches.
